When should I bring my gown in for alterations?
It’s best to bring your gown in as soon as possible. If your planning on, or in the process of losing weight we can schedule your future appointments accordingly.
What should I bring to my fittings?
SHOES are most important as most gowns need the length adjusted. If you have undergarments (bra and/or slip) bring them, if not or your not sure what you need; slips and foundations are available for purchase at Jill Bates Fashion Design & Sewing.
I will be coming in from out of town with my gown, can you press my gown?
Yes, Jill Bates Fashion Design & Sewing offers the service of steaming wedding gowns, bridesmaids gowns, mother’s dresses, and veils.
I want to wear a veil, but I can’t find anything I like or I’m to busy to shop. Do you have veils?
Jill Bates Fashion Design & Sewing can create a veil that will compliment your gown. You may choose simple to elaborate; traditional to contemporary.
How much does it cost to alter my gown?
The fee for gown alterations depends on what adjustments are needed. Embellishments such as beadwork and lace, multiple layers on your gown, and built in petticoats are considered when pricing gown alterations.
How will my train be bustled?
Every train is bustled differently. It depends on the length and width of the train and the style of your gown. We will decide if the bustle should be a traditional bustle or a french bustle at your first fitting. It is a good idea to bring someone with you when you pick up your gown to show them the bustle.
I am having a garden wedding; can the train be taken off?
Yes, taking the train off and hemming the back of the gown is an option.
I don’t want my strapless gown to “ slip” while wearing it, what can be done?
A strapless wedding gown needs a lot of boning inside the gown for a custom fit. Jill Bates Fashion Design & Sewing will sew a waistband stay into your gown to be sure the dress stays in place. Some figure types require a strap on the gown.
When should I pick up my gown?
Most brides pick up their gown 2 or 3 days before their wedding day. Some choose to pick it up 1 or 2 weeks before. Whatever you feel comfortable with is when Jill Bates Fashion Design will have it ready.
How much would it cost?
Once I see the dress I can give you an exact price, however, if you would like to see an estimation only price list please contact me.
